NOVAPACK is an innovative project focused on transforming the way food is preserved and packaged across the Mediterranean. By combining cutting-edge science with sustainable practices, the project aims to extend food shelf life, enhance safety, and significantly reduce both food waste and dependence on petroleum-based plastics.
Our Mission
NOVAPACK brings together a multidisciplinary partnership across Europe and the Mediterranean, including research centres, industry and technology providers:

What We Do
Through an integrated scientific and technological approach, NOVAPACK focuses on:
- Valorisation of natural bioactive compounds for active food packaging
- Development of antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant extracts
- Creation of natural colorants and smart pH indicators for intelligent packaging
- Extraction of pectin and soluble polysaccharides to formulate biodegradable coatings and films
- Design of innovative packaging materials for modified atmosphere storage
- Application of advanced technologies (e.g. encapsulation) to protect bioactivity and preserve food quality
